The Forerunner Training Camp is a continuation of SFR’s mission to
‘train up a child’. Exclusively for ages 16 and 17, this camp is
designed for the camper that desires to transition to leader.
Ideally this is a two year preparation as they make the transition
from camp being ‘all about me’ to camp being ‘all about my campers’.
This is a critical mental transition for all those interested in
servant leadership at SFR.
Forerunner 1 (for 16 and 17 year olds) includes two weeks of
training followed by one week (at least) of volunteering as a
counselor for day campers ages 5 to 10.
The two training weeks will involve camping in the Ozark Mountains,
canoeing the Illinois River, team building challenges, time in the
classroom and completion of a work project.
Forerunner
2 (age 17) involves two final weeks of training followed by (up to)
five weeks of volunteering as a day camp counselor or other camp
supporting roles.
The two training weeks will involve hiking in the Rocky Mountains of
New Mexico, white water rafting, camping, team building challenges,
time in the classroom and completion of a work project.
The two weeks are filled with adventure activities, classes on
servant leadership and camp curriculum and training in SFR camp
policies and procedures. These classes are followed by the practical
experiences of supervising young children at day camp while being
mentored by college age leaders.
You can’t find a better way to discover Truth than through this type
of program. |
